Underground bicycle parking De Entree
In the heart of Amsterdam, Max Bögl Nederland is building an underground bicycle parking facility that will provide space for 7,000 bicycles. The construction pit and bicycle garage are located in the water between Martelaarsgracht and Damrak. As soon as the bicycle garage is ready, the water will be returned on top of it and the canal boats that are so typical of Amsterdam can sail their old routes again.
In order to be able to build the garage underwater, a construction pit with anchored sheet piling walls was made. The bottom closure of the construction pit consists of underwater concrete provided with micropiles (anchor piles) which keep the underwater concrete in place during the construction phase. At a later stage, the micropiles will serve as a foundation for the bicycle garage.
Commissioned by Jetmix Funderingstechniek BV, H5S helped install more than 1000 anchor piles with a length of approximately 20 meters. All piles were installed from the water – in the excavated pit – with the help of floating equipment.
The excavation pit has now been drained and this provides beautiful images for fans of civil engineering.
